Organization makes a system of many appear fewer.
this quote speaks volumes to my sensibilities, to a constant inner and outer struggle of being a collector and a maker, while, at the same time, piles and messes and things left undone keep me up at night. i think beej experiences a bit of this as well. a self described minimalist when we met, he has, over the last few years, become quite the maker, getting into welding and woodworking in addition to his yard obsessions. our pastimes require tools and materials, and the more we make the more these things multiply.
enter the family handyman, a favorite magazine over here (and highly recommended!) and their introduction of the french cleat wall. i mentioned it here, and after a handful of months of having a functioning workshop in the garage and moving items around and around and around on this wall, it is by far the most inexpensive, utilitarian, brilliant system ever invented. (disagree? we’d love to know what works better!)
