kathryn e. martin is currently an associate lecturer at The University
of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM) and The Milwaukee Institute of Art &
Design (MIAD) where she teaches 2D and 3D Design and Sculpture.
She received a BFA in Sculpture and Art History from MIAD (where she
met Amanda!) and a MA and MFA in InterMedia Studies from UWM.
She exhibits her large-scale, site-specific, found object
installations in solo and group shows throughout the Midwest. With a
focus on observing banal objects, martin concentrates on the objects
formal characteristics and makes instinctive and calculated decisions
to dissect, interpret, repeat and re-assemble parts into a whole as a
way to change inherent functions and make visible the invisible.
In addition to studio and gallery based work, martin concurrently
works in the realms of Public Artist, Exhibition Designer, Visiting
Artist, Artists Assistant, time manager, and now (being very pleased
to add another feather in her cap): a producer of fine hand-crafted
goods, distributed through MASH Handmade.
