The puppets are made by me here in my house where I have a laser cutter set up in my little workroom. The designs are exclusively my own-- they evolved from my ink doodles. For each puppet design I scan my drawings and turn it into a working, moving puppet. The puppets are made from heavy mat board, a light but thick material that makes them sturdy enough to be played with by kids. The puppets do have sticks and small parts, so it is advised that children play with them under adult supervision.
Other notes: The mat board has a high recycled content and I also recycle my scraps. To encourage teachers to use shadow puppetry in schools I list a lesson plan on my website and donate the sample puppets from craft shows to schools at the end of the year.

How did I start making puppets? What else do I do?
-A few years back I had a job as a model maker....I made miniature versions of buildings. Most of our parts were cut with a laser cutter, and eventually I learned how to use it. But buildings were boring to me so I started cutting out my drawings...and those cut-outs became puppets. It was strange but understandable, since I do have a background in puppetry. After a while I decided to get my own laser cutter ($$$!!!) and have been making puppets ever since. I have made a few other laser-cut things including a series of black, sarcastic valentines, Halloween decorations, and mobiles. I also do freelance work for some puppet theaters here in Chicago. This winter I am working with Redmoon Theater and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to do a version of Swan Lake in shadow puppets + I'm also working with the Chicago Children's theater to create a special show for children with Autism. When I'm not up to my nose in puppets I enjoy drinking coffee, drawing pictures, and fixing bikes.
